Check If Your Vehicle Is Eligible for Scrapping
Answer a few quick questions to find out whether your vehicle qualifies for scrapping under India's Vehicle Scrappage Policy.
Your vehicle is eligible for scrapping!
You can take your vehicle to a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) and claim benefits such as a road tax rebate, a Certificate of Deposit (CD), and discounts on your new vehicle.
Find RVSF Near YouYour vehicle is not yet eligible for mandatory scrapping
You can still voluntarily scrap your vehicle at any age if you choose to.
Why does age matter?
Older vehicles emit significantly more pollution and are generally less fuel-efficient than modern vehicles. As a vehicle ages, its engine, catalytic converter and emission-control systems wear down, leading to higher release of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides.
This is precisely why the Vehicle Scrappage Policy targets older vehicles. By taking high-emission, older vehicles off the road and recycling them through registered facilities, the policy helps reduce air pollution, improve fuel efficiency across the vehicle fleet, and create a cleaner and safer environment for everyone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. India's Vehicle Scrappage Policy allows you to voluntarily scrap your end-of-life vehicle at a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) at any age, even if it is not yet old enough to be mandatory. Doing so lets you claim the associated benefits, such as the road tax rebate and the Certificate of Deposit, on the purchase of a new vehicle.
A fitness test is an automated inspection conducted at authorized Automated Testing Stations (ATS) to check whether a vehicle is roadworthy and safe to operate. It assesses factors such as emissions, brakes, steering, and overall mechanical condition. A vehicle that fails this test is declared unfit for road use and must be scrapped at a registered facility, regardless of its age.
The core age thresholds under the central policy are the same across India — private vehicles become eligible at 20 years and commercial vehicles at 15 years. However, certain states may implement additional local incentives, documentation requirements, or variations in rebate percentages. It is always a good idea to check the rules applicable in your own state before scrapping.
